Anglo Persian oil company and in the year 1954 as the British petroleum companyone of six vertically integrated private sector oil, natural gas, and petrol (gasoline) in the world, along with Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Total . It is the largest oil company in the world for its turnover in the year 2005. Its turnover with sales is calculated at $285 Billion in the same year. In the year 2005, the Forbes Global 2000 ranked it as the 9th largest company in the world. British Petroleum merged with Amoco , in December 1998, becoming BPAmoco until 2002, when it was renamed BP and adopted the tagline "Beyond Petroleum," which remains in use today
